Description

FRANCE. Constitution. Gilt Copper 24 Livres Essai (Pattern), Year (5/4)/1793. Paris Mint. Louis XVI. PCGS SPECIMEN-61.
Maz-50 var. (silver); cf. Gad-61 (for regular issue in gold); Guilloteau-373. Plain edge. By A. Dupré. Diameter: 24mm; Weight: 3.74 gms. Similar to the silver version, this pattern issue presents a tremendous degree of exceptional luster blazing throughout, with some scattered friction accounting for the overall designation. Also similar to the preceding silver specimen, the exact denomination would appear to be that of the 24 Livres, as Margolis suggests, though the Farouk tag (possibly from Schulman) suggests 15 Sols and PCGS throws out the idea of a Louis d'or.
From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from the Farouk Collection in March 1954). Ex: Palace Collections of Egypt [King Farouk] (Sotheby's - 3/1954) Lot # 2175 (part of). Ex: Virgil M. Brand Collection (as "Ferrari-Brand," Schulman - ca. 1932) Lot # 3434. Ex: Baron Phillipe de Ferrari la Renotière Collection.

Estimate: $750.00- $1500.00
