MEXICO. San Luis Potosi. 1/4 Real, 1860. San Luis Potosi Mint. NGC Good Details--Private Countermark.
EMO-3137.2 (Plate coin); KM-359. "FR" Countermark. The rather muddled reverse design was overtaken by the bold two-letter counterstamp. While its precise attribution is difficult to determine, the suggestion that it stood for "Frente Reformista" is bolstered by the host coin's date of 1860, in the midst of the Reform War. An interesting piece with dark glossy surfaces.
