Description

SYRIA. Seleukid Kingdom. Antiochos VI Dionysos, 144-141 B.C. AR Tetradrachm (16.97 gms), Antioch on the Orontes Mint, dated SE 170 (143/2 B.C.). NGC Ch EF, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 4/5. Die Shift.
HGC-9, 1032; SC-2000.3C2. Obverse: Radiate and diademed head right; Reverse: The Dioskouroi, holding reins and couched lances, on horses rearing left; to right, TPY above monogram above ΣTA; OP (date) below; all within wreath of laurel, ivy, and grain ears. Struck upon a fairly broad flan, this lightly toned specimen retains a high degree of enchanting brilliance.
