BRITISH GUIANA. Barclays Bank (D.C.O.). 5 Dollars, 1.3.1939. P-S104a. PMG Very Fine 25.
Fully issued example of this scarce type. For accuracy, we mention a partially erased annotation in the top margin on the back that is barely visible and hardly worth commenting on. Bright purple color and a scarce type, presently surpassed in the PMG population report by just a single example. The 1937-1941 issue of Barclays Bank printed by Bradbury uses the same design as the 1926-1936 issue, but with updated colors. The printer would use continuous prefixes and serial numbers for all the different branches of the bank, leading to a confusing array of issues. Your cataloger (DH) is presently researching this series and believes this date and denomination for British Guiana had a print run of 56,000 notes split over seven prefixes (the prefix would change every 10,000 notes). PMG comments "Annotation."
