Marienville, Pennsylvania. $10 1882 Value Back. Fr. 577. Gold Standard NB. Charter #5727. PMG Fine 12.
Hailing from a bank whose title reflects one of the most charged political issues of the period. The Gold Standard National Bank was chartered in 1901 shortly after the passage of the Gold Standard Act the previous year. The bank officers of this institution were most likely enthusiastic supporters of McKinley and the Republican cause if the bank title is any indication of political leanings as those in favor of the Gold Standard largely tracked with the Republican platform or were disaffected Democrats dissatisfied with the likes William Jennings Bryan who advanced the cause of bimetallism better known as the "Free Silver" movement.
