Representing the final iteration of the Series of 1875 prior to Gilfillan's appointment as Treasurer, a move which precipitated the change to the "Series of 1878." This example beams with the aesthetic excess common to notes issued by the United States through the late 1890s. From the bright ornamental floral protectors applied with the utmost complexity to vignettes and engraved details executed in a dark jet-black reminiscent of the night sky and laid against a backdrop of bright paper this note stands among its peers as an exceptional example and one wholly worthy of a premium bid.
