1851-D Gold Dollar. Winter 3-E. MS-62 (NGC).
A wonderful example of this very scarce, essentially Choice Mint State Dahlonega Mint gold dollar. Most examples are EF or lower AU grades; Mint State coins are quite rare and eagerly sought after by specialists. The presently offered example was well struck from heavily clashed dies. The clashing is quite dramatic, leaving two incuse stars to the left of the D mintmark. Brilliant, satiny yellow gold color shows hints of orange, rose, and olive patina. Exceptionally eye appealing, this high grade example will fit nicely in any advanced gold dollar set, or represent the Dahlonega Mint in a gold dollar type set; regardless of the type of collection this coin ends up in, the cabinet will certainly be elevated.
