Evergreen, Alabama. $10 1902 Red Seal. Fr. 613. First NB. Charter #7687. PMG Choice Uncirculated 64 EPQ.
A name arguably more befitting of Washington State rather than Alabama, the present example hails from a small town located in Conecuh County just off Interstate 65. Chartered in 1905 amidst a loosening of criteria which allowed the creation of banks in small towns with a capitalization of only $25,000. Today, the First National Bank of Evergreen is a scarce issuer with only a total 19 surviving notes including this example, a fate which many notes from comparable institutions did not share. Preserved as part of a small run $10 Red Seals, this note appears as original as the day it was likely forgotten almost 120 years ago, a situation which spared it from eventual redemption. Noted for "Exceptional Paper Quality" by PMG.
