Description

1863 Washington Portrait / Eagle on Globe. Fuld-120/434 fo, Musante GW-585, Baker-467. Rarity-9. Silver. Reeded Edge. Overstruck on an 1854 Arrows Liberty Seated Dime. MS-63 (NGC).

19 mm. An outstanding example, virtually all major elements of the undertype's design are discernible with patience, the most significant the date 1854 and arrows at the left obverse border of the token. Attractively toned, both sides exhibit halos of iridescent reddish-gold peripheral color that give way to softer pearl-gray toward the centers. A similar example overstruck on an 1841-O dime and certified MS-63 by PCGS realized $3,240 in our November 2020 sale of the Tampa Collection.

Estimate: $1500
