Description

1845 James K. Polk Indian Peace Medal. Bronze. First Size. Second Reverse. Julian IP-24, Prucha-46. MS-62 BN (NGC).

75.8 mm. 3489.7 grains. Deep mahogany bronze with some reverse mottling, though the obverse is fairly uniform. Prooflike and sharp. A couple of trivial spots and some scattered light handling are noted. Struck from the second reverse as nearly all seen. An ever-desirable medal considering the great rarity of all silver Polk medals.

From the Ronald A. Slovick Family Collection. Earlier from Johnson and Jensen's sale of May 1982, lot 881.

Estimate: $800
