SICILY. Himera. AR Tetradrachm (17.20 gms), ca. 409 B.C. NGC Ch MS, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 5/5. Fine Style.

BMC-2.81, 48; SNG Lloyd-1022. Obverse die signed: "MAI" (on Nike's sign). The Nymph Himera driving quadriga right, Nike above flying left, horses in high action, Pistrix (Sea serpent or Ketos) facing left in exergue; Reverse: Nymph Himera standing facing, head left holding patera over altar, Satyr bathing in lion-headed fountain behind. A breathtaking example that deserves viewing in hand. Crisp strike details with fine style dies. Gleaming surfaces with abundant frosty luster. A tremendous example worthy of any sophisticated collection.
