Description

COSTA RICA. Banco Internacional de Costa Rica. 10 Colones, 1931. P-179. PMG Choice Fine 15 Net. PMG Comments "Rust Damage."
A run of 43,000 Serie D notes were issued on Nov. 7, 1931, of this overprint P-181 variation, S/N D 032115. Ultra rare. The front shows three milkmen on horses at the center and flanked by the denomination within rosettes on each side along with an orange overprint. The back shows a beautiful intricate design along with a bust of Columbus at the center and has an overprint that reads "Certificado de Plata" which translates to "Silver Certificate". This issuance of 10 colones bill, series D, was similar to that of 50 of the series C. Both were issued in accordance with law No. 38 of Nov. 5, 1931, which authorized the International Bank issue for an amount not exceeding 1,493,713.25, which was the total of re-stamped national silver currency that the bank had. With both issues, the bank issued almost the entire amount. Only example graded by PMG. PMG Comments "Rust Damage."
