Description
1856-O Liberty Head Half Eagle. Winter-1, the only known dies. AU Details--Counterstamped (NGC).
A lightly worn example. An intriguing, Brunk-unlisted counterstamp in the shape of a rabbit is seen at the center of the shield on the reverse. The coin otherwise is a rich orange-gold tone with boldly defined devices and a general good look. The origin of this cute counterstamp invites further research from the winning bidder, but could be of more recent vintage.
