Description

1860 Liberty Head Quarter Eagle. Breen-6250. Type I Reverse. AU-58 (NGC).

An important coin for the advanced quarter eagle collector. Of the three Type I or "Old" Reverse varieties struck 1859 to 1861, the 1860 is by far the most elusive; in fact, it was unknown to Walter Breen when he published his 1988 Encyclopedia, the author's entry for attribution #6250 stating, "Possibly exists." Just the slightest hint of rub is seen on the highest points, but this coin is about as close to a full Mint State grade as you can get. Rich golden color is highlighted by a brilliant luster. Well stuck and visually alluring, this example will fit nicely in any advanced cabinet of Liberty Head quarter eagles.

PCGS# 97791. NGC ID: 25JR.
