1897-O Liberty Head Eagle. Winter-1. MS-62 (PCGS). CAC.
A gorgeous Mint State example that ranks among the finer survivors of this late date New Orleans Mint gold issue. This piece is brightly lustrous with a softly frosted, golden-apricot appearance to both sides. The major design elements are crisply delineated from a sharp strike, and the surfaces are smooth enough to suggest a Choice Mint State classification upon first glance. The 1897-O has a mintage of just 42,500 pieces, and it is among the scarcer Motto Liberty Eagles from the New Orleans Mint. At PCGS MS-62, the offered coin from the Fairmont holdings represents the finest realistically obtainable for most of today's gold collectors.
