1889 Washington Inaugural Centennial, Committee of the Celebration Medal. By Augustus Saint-Gaudens and Philip Martiny. Musante GW-1135, Douglas-53. Bronze, Cast. MS-64 (NGC).
303.7 grams. Unmarked edge. A final specimen with this exceptional provenance, this apparently with a different patina. The obverse is deep mahogany-brown with faded orange in some recesses, while the reverse is a bit lighter. A couple of minor patina breaks on the high points have little effect on the overall eye appeal, but likely account for the grade. An original Gorham box is included, though it is somewhat damaged and has tape repairs.
From the Estate of Richard Watson Gilder; an unnamed Gilder descendant; present consignor.
