1793 Flowing Hair Cent. Chain Reverse. S-3. Rarity-3-. AMERICA, Without Periods. Fine Details--Repaired (PCGS).
There is plenty of "coin" here to tempt the type collector seeking a somewhat more affordable example of this classic one year design type from the first year of cent production in the United States Mint. All major deign elements on both sides are quite bold, in fact, with the only significant softness confined to Liberty's hair, where the individual strands are mostly indistinct. Several small handling marks and wispy pin scratches are noted, but the most significant detraction - and that which explains the PCGS qualifier - is an area of tooling at center obverse where graffiti in the form of three Xs has been partially effaced. Hard deep copper-brown surfaces present quite nicely in hand, however, and given the strong demand that this issue enjoys throughout the numismatic grading scale, we anticipate much interest in this offering.
