1716 Happiness of France Medal. Adams S-5. Bronze. MS-64 (PCGS).
42.9 mm. Plain edge, with rounded rims that suggest a late 18th century or very early 19th century strike. Nice medium brown, lustrous and original with hints of mint color. An attractive piece. The reverse depiction of a cornucopia dumping coins led to a hopeful interpretation of this being related to the founding of the Banque Generale, but Adams successfully sleuthed the real intent of this medal's reverse, which was to celebrate the "golden age" of France.
From the Skyler Liechty Collection. Earlier ex Tony Lopez. Collector envelope with attribution and provenance notes included.
