1874 Three-Dollar Gold Piece. MS-63 (PCGS).
A vibrant and attractive example seemingly earmarked for inclusion in a Choice Mint State type set. Evenly toned in lovely orange-rose patina, the surfaces are overall smooth and suggestive of an even higher grade. While the 1874 vies with the 1854 and 1878 as the most frequently encountered three-dollar gold piece in today's market, no issue in this short-lived series can rightly be called common in an absolute sense. With demand for high grade survivors particularly strong, the present example is sure to have no difficulty attracting competitive bids at auction.
