1798 Draped Bust Silver Dollar. Heraldic Eagle. BB-116, B-30a. Rarity-5. Pointed 9, Close Date. EF-40 (PCGS). CAC.
A find for the specialist in early dollar varieties. Attractively toned in original mauve and dove gray shades, the in hand appearance of this coin is remarkably smooth as far as circulation marks are concerned. The detail is bold in most areas, but there is a concentration of vertical adjustment marks (as made) in the middle of the reverse star field that inhibited the strike in that area. One of the scarcer die marriages of the 1798 Heraldic Eagle dollar, BB-116 has an extant population of only 150 to 250 coins in all grades (per Q. David Bowers, 2013). BB Die State VI.
