1838 Classic Head Half Eagle. HM-2. Rarity-3. AU-50+ (PCGS). CAC.
Delicate orange-apricot iridescence enlivens otherwise golden-honey surfaces. An original AU example, solidly graded and with sharp to full striking detail and discernible mint luster. The 1838 rivals the 1837 as the scarcest Philadelphia Mint issue in the Classic Head half eagles series. Only two die marriages are known, and they are of comparable rarity.
