Monroe, Louisiana. Vicksburg, Shreveport & Texas RR Co. 1862 $2. PMG Choice Uncirculated 63 EPQ.
No. 548, Plate A. This railroad was chartered in 1853 and was intended to run between northeast Texas and the Mississippi River before the Civil War overcame these efforts. In early 1862, Confederate authorities seized control of the line due to the Union sympathies of the railroad's officers. This is one of the couple nicest examples your cataloger has seen.
