Fr. 293. 1886 $10 Silver Certificate. PMG Choice Extremely Fine 45.
The Tombstone Note is a long-standing favorite. Depicted within a tombstone-shaped frame is Thomas A. Hendricks, vice president of the United States under the first administration of Grover Cleveland, serving from March 4, 1885 until his death on November 25, 1885. Likely, when the Series of 1886 Silver Certificates were being conceived, Hendricks' passing was still being mourned, and President Cleveland approved of the posthumous honor conferred upon his erstwhile vice president. The presently offered examples offers bright paper and excellent appeal of the design for the assigned grade.
