1877 Trade Dollar. Proof-65 Cameo (PCGS).
Here is a wonderfully original Proof 1877 trade dollar that combines condition rarity with strong eye appeal. Both sides are predominantly sandy-silver and pale apricot in appearance, the reverse further enhanced by a halo of rose-russet around the periphery. Vivid multicolored undertones flash into view as the surfaces dip into a light. Sharply struck throughout and expertly preserved, this coin is among the finest Proof 1877 trade dollars that we have ever offered. This specimen is one of just 510 Proofs of the date struck, far and away the smallest Proof production run for any issue in the trade dollar series other than the clandestine 1884 and 1885 Proof-only rarities. Within the already exclusive population of survivors the present example is among the finest, its offering in this sale representing a significant bidding opportunity for discerning collectors.
