Description

AUSTRALIA. Florin, 1934/5. Melbourne Mint. George V. PCGS MS-64.
KM-33. A dual-date commemorative, this issue was struck to honor the centennials of the founding of Victoria (in 1834) and Melbourne (in 1835). Richly lustrous with light golden tone that rounds out the appearance. Considering the attractiveness of the design and the impressive elusiveness in this format, and coin that stands out as a key issue for early 20th century Australian collectors. VERY RARE in proof, this coin displays reflective gleam in the fields with satiny contrast on the designs; several raised lines that are present due to polishing of the dies make identification as a proof rather unmistakable. While we feel strongly that this piece should qualify for a proof or specimen designation, however, PCGS is presently not holdering any examples of this issue as either Proof or Specimen until greater knowledge of this issue is acquired. Given the appearance of this piece, it more closely resembles the fabric and strike of New Zealand proofs from the same time, rather than the normal bright and frosty finish on the business strike of the type.

Estimate: $1000.00- $2000.00
