RUSSIA. Silver Ruble Pattern Novodel, 1807. St. Petersburg Mint. Alexander I. PCGS SPECIMEN-53.
KM-Pn72; Bit-H672 (R2). An EXTREMELY RARE Novodel restrike of the fabled 1807 Pattern Ruble, this charming example delivers a steely brilliance and charming details with just a slight touch of friction noticed on the surfaces. Toning is occasionally seen at the peripheries, adding to the general charm of this example, and wear is confined to only the highest elements of the design. The reverse does show evidence of an underlying design, as this example was overstruck on a Spanish or Spanish Colonial 8 Reales, a somewhat curious occurrence. A tremendous Novodel that should appeal to any advanced collector of Russian coinage.
From the Sigma Collection.
