MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1821-Mo JJ. Mexico City Mint. Ferdinand VII. PCGS AU-58.
KM-111; FC-118; Eliz-162; Yonaka-M8-121. In every series there are 'sleeper dates' that are much harder to get your hands on once you start assembling a date set…and the 1821-Mo is one of those issues. While 1821-dated 8 Reales can be common from other mints such as Zacatecas, this final year of the Spanish Colonial issues saw a reduction in production from the Mexico City mint which made the coin difficult to find in any grade and near impossible in high grades. The current AU-58 example is tied with only one other coin at PCGS for finest graded and has ample luster and a very bold strike - especially on the reverse.
