SICILY. Gela. AR Tetradrachm (17.25 gms), ca. 425-420 B.C. NGC Ch VF, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 3/5. Fine Style.
HGC-2, 352. Obverse: Nike, holding wreath and reins, driving chariot left; olive wreath above; Reverse: Forepart of man-headed bull right; below, heron standing right. A fairly SCARCE type that is undoubtedly struck from dies of fine style, this tremendous example displays a particularly well rendered and well executed reverse, with great expression on the face of the man-headed bull.
