SICILY. Akragas. AR Hemidrachm (2.05 gms), ca. 420-410 B.C. NGC Ch AU★, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 5/5. Fine Style.
HGC-2, 105; Westermark-576 (O18/R23); SNG ANS-1010 (same dies). Obverse: Eagle standing right on, and tearing at, hare; barley grain to left; Reverse: Crab; below, ketos left with fish in its mouth. A wondrous example that is perfect for the connoisseur, this enchanting example radiates with eye appeal and a great strike that is tantalizingly centered. Meanwhile, a good deal of elegant brilliance and cabinet toning augment its allure that much more, making its star well received.
