Charles City, Iowa. $5 1875. Fr. 401. The First NB. Charter #1810. PMG Uncirculated 62 Net. Previously Mounted, Small Tear.
We have not offered this charter to our bidders since our Bowers sale of August, 1991. The presently offered example is simply stunning; the overprints are dark red, the signatures are neat & legible in brown ink and the design is darkly inked. The blue security tinting of the top end was an additional cost when printed by CBNC, and is something not many banks opted to do. This was done as an anti-counterfeiting measure. The bank title and related text at center are found in five different fonts, giving a neat look to the layout. This issuer apparently spared no expense when printing their notes. PMG comments "Previously Mounted, Small Tear."
