Circa 1795 Grate Halfpenny. Large Buttons. Musante GW-49, Baker-29AA, Breen-1271. Copper. Diagonally reeded edge. AU-55 (PCGS).
28.2 mm. 139.8 grains. Medium steel brown with deep tan highlights close to the rims. A somewhat handled piece, with scattered small nicks and marks visible under magnification. Though a duplicate, this is interesting as being from an earlier die state, with only the very beginning of the obverse crack at the I of FIRM, connecting this letter to the rim. On most seen, this crack is considerably more advanced. Nicely struck with good detail through the central reverse.
