Inscriptions above read AMERICAN UNIVERSITY OF BEIRUT and the University motto UT VITAM HABEANT ABUNDANTIUS HABEANT (That they may have life and have it more abundantly). The motto also appears at the lower border, but in Arabic. Rev: Wreath surrounds raised central field inscribed THE UNIVERSITY MEDAL / AWARDED TO / PAUL A. VOLCKER. Edge: MACO 24KT. GOLD ELECTROPLATE ON .999 FINE SILVER. Suspended from a red and white ribbon.
