Description

"1866" American University of Beirut Award Medal. Struck by Medallic Art Company. Gold Electroplate Silver. Awarded to Paul A. Volcker. Mint State.
57 mm. 126.64 grams, .999 fine silver, with 24 karat gold electroplate. Obv: The outline of a large tree in the center with the date of founding 1866 immediately below. Inscriptions above read AMERICAN UNIVERSITY OF BEIRUT and the University motto UT VITAM HABEANT ABUNDANTIUS HABEANT (That they may have life and have it more abundantly). The motto also appears at the lower border, but in Arabic. Rev: Wreath surrounds raised central field inscribed THE UNIVERSITY MEDAL / AWARDED TO / PAUL A. VOLCKER. Edge: MACO 24KT. GOLD ELECTROPLATE ON .999 FINE SILVER. Suspended from a red and white ribbon. The American University of Beirut is a private, non-sectarian, and independent University chartered in New York with its campus in Beirut, Lebanon.
