Description

1883 Sons of the American Revolution Badge. Musante GW-1007, Baker-CA678. Gold and Gilt Brass. Very Fine.
43.3 mm x 27.4 mm. with eagle. Blue, violet and rose patina in the fields of the central medallion, which seems to have been lightly gilt. The Washington side exhibits some small scratches, while the other side shows only a bit of wear. This one saw some use, probably by an active member who wore it frequently. Some minor chipping of the blue enamel is also noted. Though unmarked as to karat, the Rulau-Fuld reference states these to be 14kt. Engraved "201" on the back of one of the eagle's wings, indicating the member's number. These were probably issued for the December 4, 1883 event held at Fraunce's Tavern in commemoration of Washington's farewell to his officers held there a century before.
