Description

Fr. 18. 1869 $1 Legal Tender Note. PCGS Banknote Very Fine 20. Mismatched Serial Number Error.
A monster rarity, which is destined for the top tier error note collector. For all large size serial number errors (of any type), Frederick J. Bart records only 14 known examples in his book United States Paper Money Errors. This example is the only recorded serial number error from the highly collectible Rainbow series of 1869, so this note will surely draw bids from both the error & large size collecting communities. The mistake lies within the last two digits of the serial numbers; at left is Z92034 67 & right Z92034 71. According to Bart's book, it is one of only five large size errors to feature a double digit error. Looking past the error, this Very Fine note offers plenty of appeal for the assigned grade. The blue & green undertints are attractive given the circulation, with wide margins adding to the appeal. Bid accordingly, as it may be sometime before this treasure is offered again.
From the Mismacthed Serial Number Collection.
Estimate: $12500.00- $17500.00
