Description

1853/53 Liberty Seated Quarter. No Arrows or Rays. Briggs 1-A, FS-301. Repunched Date. AU-50 (NGC).
The mintage of this scarce issue is a mere 44,200 pieces struck in the first two months of 1853. Hence few were saved and most slipped into oblivion via the melting pots of the profiteers of this era. Warm mauve-gray patina evenly blankets each side and the strike is sharp. We also note intermingled cobalt blue and antique reddish-gold iridescence as the coin rotates under a light. The boldly repunched date is clear with a loupe on the digits 53. A memorable offering for the specialist who demands and appreciates exceptional quality.
PCGS# 5421. NGC ID: 23TA.
