Description

MD-56. Maryland. March 1, 1770. $2. PMG About Uncirculated 55.
No.20019. Signed by Couden and Clapham. Engraved border cuts by Thomas Sparrow. Back imprint of Anne Catherine and W. Green. A superbly printed and detailed example from this much more condition-sensitive series. Not to be confused with the common 1774 issue. The PMG Population Report shows that across all denominations of this series there is not a single Uncirculated piece. One $6 note graded 58 EPQ and then there are three others besides this evening's offering that warrant an AU 55 grade. Even the scarce 1767 series has a small serial number range of notes that are found in lovely Choice-Superb Gem CU grades. A superb example located in a comment-free holder. A rare occurrence to be sure.
Estimate: $1000.00- $1500.00
