1926 Plaque for the Exhibiciones Velazquez. By F. More de la Torre. Bronze. Extremely Fine.
Approximately 10 inches in diameter, framed to 18.5 inches x 16 inches. Framed in wood, apparently contemporary to the plaque, with brown velvet matting and a paper label identifying this as the reverse of a commemorative medallion for the Exhibition by F. More de la Torre. The bronze is uniformly toned, the paper label aged, with minor chipping, and the frame showing evidence of standard handling for the age. The design is taken directly from Diego Velazquez's 1640 painting, Mars. According to the exhibition brochure, the original was "painted to decorate the spaces between the balconies of the Torre de la Parada (Parade Tower) about 1654, near the Spanish Royal Palace of El Pardo." Due to the size and nature of this lot, additional shipping charges apply. Please call 800-458-4646 for more information.
