40 mm. 60 grams, 22 karat, 55.02 grams AGW. This attractive medallion was issued in 1993 on the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Bank of Italy. Designed by Arnaldo Pomodoro, the obverse is an allegorical representation of the history and values of the Bank of Italy. The three triangles represent the three original institutions that merged to create the bank of Italy. Also shown are the main functions of the Bank: banknote issue and payment systems, monetary policy and supervision of the credit and financial systems. The center of the medal portrays the moral and civic values expressed by the Bank over the past century. The reverse contains simply the bank's monogram and name, along with the dates 1893-1993. A larger (60 mm) version in silver was also made. Housed in the original case with Certificate of Guarantee.
