Description

Lot of (3) Harry S. Truman Foundation Good Neighbor Award and Related Medals. Gold Filled. Two Examples Awarded to Paul A. Volcker and Mrs. Volcker. Mint State.
38 mm each. 54.5 grams total. The first two medals are nearly identical Good Neighbor Awards, presented to Paul A. Volcker and Mrs. Volcker and housed in the original green felt presentation box. These were XRF tested as approximately 12% gold. Obv: Bust of President Harry S. Truman facing left with inscription 100th ANNIVERSARY OF BIRTH 1984 above and name HARRY S. TRUMAN below. Rev: South portico of the White House, above the inscription THE HARRY S. TRUMAN / GOOD NEIGHBOR AWARD / FOUNDATION. The medal presented to Mr. Volcker has his initials PAV engraved in the left obverse field, the one presented to Mrs. Volcker has a pair of what appear to be diamonds inset into the left and right obverse field areas. Both exhibit a bold sandblast and vivid deep gold color. The third medal was XRF tested as approximately 20% gold: Obv: Bust of President Truman left with the inscription HAPPY BIRTHDAY MR. PRESIDENT above, name HARRY S. TRUMAN below. Rev: South portico of the White House above the inscription 86th BIRTHDAY / MAY 8 1970 / 33RD PRESIDENT OF THE / UNITED STATES. The Harry S. Truman Foundation was founded in 1972 to "cultivate, promote, foster, sponsor, develop and preserve among persons of the United States and throughout the world an understanding and devotion to the principles espoused by Harry S. Truman." Truman's memory is celebrated at an annual birthday luncheon held in Kansas City in early May. At that luncheon, The Truman Good Neighbor Award is presented to honor a person in public life who has exemplified the principles of Harry S. Truman and who is recognized for exemplary service to their community and the nation. (Total: 3 medals; 1 case)
