The front of the case is printed THE NELSON A. ROCKEFELLER / PUBLIC SERVICE AWARD, the inside of the lid with TIFFANY & CO. The Nelson A. Rockefeller Distinguished Public Service Award was established by the Board of Visitors of Dartmouth College in 1990 to honor Nelson A. Rockefeller (class of 1930) for his dedication to service in the public and private sectors. The Washington Post in its issue of May 10, 1990 carried the following story: "Paul Volcker, former Federal Reserve Board chairman, is to receive the third Rockefeller Public Service Award presented to an individual whose public service accomplishments exemplify the ideals of Nelson Rockefeller and inspire others to public service. Previous winners have been retired ambassador to Japan and former Senate majority leader Mike Mansfield and former secretary of state George Shultz. The prestigious award is to be presented next month at a dinner at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City. The committee that selects the Rockefeller Institute award includes former president Gerald Ford, former secretary of state Henry Kissinger, Sen. Pat Moynihan and former representative Shirley Chisholm." A most distinguished award and certainly one of the highlights of this collection. (Total: 1 medal; 1 case)
