JULIUS CAESAR. AR Denarius (3.88 gms), Military mint traveling with Caesar in North Africa, 48-47 B.C. NGC AU, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 2/5. Light Scratches.
Cr-458/1; CRI-55; Syd-1013. Obverse: Diademed head of Venus right; Reverse: Aeneas advancing left, holding palladium and bearing Anchises on his shoulder. Emanating from a highly collectible type and from one of history's more important and intriguing individuals, this specimen does exhibit some noted scratches around the bust on the obverse, but otherwise offers attractive toning and a fairly bold, sharp strike.
