Mount Kisco, New York. 1882 Brown Back $5 Fr. 474. The Mount Kisco NB. Charter #5026. PMG Choice Very Fine 35.
A village roughly about 40 miles North of New York City, Mt. Kisco is a significant historic site along the Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route. As the only issuing bank in this Westchester County village, the Mt. Kisco NB showed only $2,080 Large Size notes outstanding in 1935. This is one of only two known 1882 Brown Back $5s and has had several auction appearances over the past 20 years with grades varying from VF to AU. It currently resides in a PMG 35 holder which appears fairly accurate. Due to the wide variation in grades at which it's been offered, results have varied from a low of $3,231 to a high of $7,475. Its past offerings notwithstanding, it remains quite a rare note, and worthy of a generous bid.
