TRAJAN, A.D. 98-117. AR Denarius, Rome Mint, ca. A.D. 107-108. NGC AU. [Perhaps plated].
Woytek-268bC-1; RIC-147b; RSC-98 var. (composition of trophy). Obverse: Laureate bust right, with slight drapery; Reverse: Trophy of arms consisting of four shields, two swords, and two javelins. An attractively struck specimen with a hint of tone. NGC notes that this example could be a plated contemporary counterfeit, but the weight needed to determine that is missing from the holder. A good example for those interested in collecting coins that are in the twilight zone between reality and fiction.
