ITALY. Bruttium. Kaulonia. AR Stater (7.09 gms), ca. 525-500 B.C. NGC F, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 3/5.
HGC-1, 1416; HN Italy-2035. Obverse: Apollo advancing right, holding branch and extending arm, upon which a small daimon runs; to right, stag standing right, head left; Reverse: Incuse of obverse, but daimon in outline. Deeply toned with some earthen deposits, the worn surfaces give an aged mystique to this coin that is very charming. Though circulated, this example is free from any major flaws that would be expected given the grade, and therefore remains thoroughly collectable.
