1942 Experimental Cent. Judd-2062, Pollock-Unlisted, RB 42-57 First Reverse. Rarity-7-. Compression Molded Urea Formaldehyde Mixed with Wood Pulp, Dark Brown with Reddish Tones. Plain Edge. Specimen-60, Repaired (Uncertified).
19.0 mm, 1.7 mm thick. 7.4 grains. Obv: Bust of Columbia faces right, the portrait borrowed from the Columbian 2 centavo coin. The periphery is inscribed LIBERTY / JUSTICE with the date 1942 below. Rev: A simple wreath surrounds the inscription UNITED / STATES / MINT, the wreath copied from the Baker-155 Washington medalet. Deep mahogany-red surfaces. This piece developed two cracks, one of which resulted in the separation of the lower quarter relative to the obverse. That piece has been reattached using a clear adhesive which has dried hard, this repair explaining our qualifier. Pieces of the coin are missing from the right obverse periphery.
