1873 Pattern Liberty Seated Dime. Judd-1268, Pollock-1410. Rarity-7+. Copper. Reeded Edge. Proof-65 RD (PCGS).
The obverse and reverse designs are the same that the Mint used to strike regular issue 1873 No Arrows, Close 3 Liberty Seated dimes. In 1873 off-metal No Arrows dimes were produced in copper and aluminum. Presumably, they were sold to a handful of collectors and/or dealers who had close ties to the United States Mint. USPatterns.com suggests only three or four examples are known in each composition so these are very rarely offered to today's collectors. This is a blazing Red Gem with an absolute full strike and a high, sharp wire edge. Both sides feature gorgeous copper-orange color and accents of violet. A couple of minor carbon spots are seen on Liberty's thigh and left of the O in ONE.
