1922-S Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle. MS-64 (PCGS).
A beautiful rose-orange example with full mint luster and all design elements sharply rendered. Formerly one of the great rarities of the design type, but a modest hoard of 1922-S double eagles came to light in Central America in the early 1980s consisting of a few hundred Mint State coins. Even despite some additional finds in foreign bank hoards, the 1922-S is still considered scarce by Saint-Gaudens standards, especially at and above the MS-64 grade level.
