1787 Fugio Copper. Pointed Rays. Newman 9-T, W-6770. Rarity-6. STATES UNITED, 4 Cinquefoils. VF-20 (PCGS).
A pleasing mid-grade example, impressive for this legitimately rare die variety. Glossy chocolate-brown with well balanced detail. Excellent overall eye appeal while close inspection just reveals some tiny obverse marks and a few minor planchet flaws on the reverse. This specimen should be considered for inclusion in the Condition Census for Newman 9-T as only the NGC AU-58 CAC Newman coin is clearly superior. The Ford and Retz examples were both sharper than the present coin but with inferior color and/or surfaces and not as appealing in our opinion. A noteworthy coin that would make a significant addition or upgrade for many advanced Fugio cabinets.
