1795 Liberty Cap Half Cent. C-5b. Rarity-4. Plain Edge, No Pole. Thick Planchet. EF Details--Improperly Cleaned (NGC).
This is the scarcer variant of the 1795 C-5 die pairing, the planchet stock likely cut down mis-struck large cents. The present example is quite pleasing relative to the assigned grade with bold, uniformly denticulated borders surrounding overall sharp devices. Both sides are rough in texture, suggesting that the cleaning was done to lessen the effects of environmental damage. Retoning nicely in a blend of steely-copper and antique gold, this is a rather appealing piece that is sure to find many willing bidders among half cent enthusiasts.
PCGS# 35086. NGC ID: 2225.
