Description

KOREA. Russian Domination. 1/2 Won, Year 5 (1901). Kojong (as Emperor). NGC AU-58.

KM-1123. A RARE subset of issues featuring the Russian-style imperial eagle (as opposed to the more familiar dragon) was briefly introduced during a period of Russian influence in the waning years of the 19th century and the beginning years of the 20th. As such, the denominations produced-- all rather difficult, with the present denomination being the most difficult --took on more of a Russian feel than prior issues. This example undoubtedly stands as one of the finest that one could possibly acquire, with an alluring gunmetal gray tone and golden-pastel hints throughout.

Ex: Heritage 3021 (1/2013) Lot # 22272 @ $30,550.

Estimate: $25000.00 - $50000.00
